Sydney Cup, Saturday: No change to The Offer's price ($2.80) despite several bets of $2000 taken. The Gai Waterhouse-trained import has been anchored in plenty of multi bets. New Zealander Who Shot Thebarman remains very solid at $6.

Australian Oaks, Saturday: Support continued for Zanbagh with a bet of $2000 at $6 taken this morning seeing her price firm to $5. Lucia Valentina remains favourite at $2.50. As is the case with a lot of the favourites on Day 2 of The Championship, she has been very popular in multi betting. At longer odds Cast In Stone firmed ($101 to $71)

Queen Of The Turf, Saturday: A bet of $5000 at $2.90 was received on Catkins and she remains at that quote in front of stablemate Red Tracer ($3.80). There are a number of other minor firmers, however this was due to the scratching of Sharnee Rose.

Royal Randwick Stakes, Saturday: Memorial remains at her opening price of $4.60, however there has been support for one at longer odds. Queen Of Kariba has firmed ($26 to $21) after attracting some good bets including $200 at $250 and $150 at $6.71 (place), and $4000 (place) at $6.02.

CHAMPION trainer Chris Waller has the same number of runners in the Queen Elizabeth as he did the Doncaster, but the odds say he's facing a massive task to repeat his phenomenal "first four" from last Saturday.

Waller's most favoured of his five runners in Saturday's $4 million feature is last week's Doncaster runner-up Royal Descent, who is $8 fourth favourite. Next is Boban at $9.50, who was scratched from the Doncaster because of the heavy ground. His other runners are: $11 Hawkspur (fourth in the Doncaster), $13 Sacred Falls (Doncaster winner) and $101 My Kingdom Of Fife (10th in Doncaster).

Just as there was in the Doncaster, tab.com.au have opened a "First Waller Horse Home" market for the Queen Elizabeth.

We have taken more individual bets on Hawkspur than any other runner since Tuesday's barrier draw. Weary was backed from $6.50 to $6 on Thursday and continues to be hugely popular after its win last week. Royal Descent ($15) is also attracting interest. Chris Waller has five of the top eight in betting; his only other runner, My Kingdom of Fife is a $71 chance.

He became a $9 chance by acceptances on Tuesday and with bets including $3500 and $2000 at $9 trimmed to $7 late on Wednesday. Money continued with bets of $400 each-way at $7, $1000 and $900 at $6.50 along with a number of smaller bets which have consolidated his spot on the second line of betting behind an easing Messene at $4.

Hawkspur is gaining in popularity since the barrier draw and is $13 into $10 with bets of $300 at $11 and $500 at $10.

In a remarkable training feat, Chris Waller will provide six of the 20 starters in Saturday's Doncaster Mile and the TAB have responded quickly on Wednesday by framing a fixed odds market on his horses. Talented grey, Weary, relished the heavy conditions last start to land the Group 3 Doncaster Prelude and heads the betting at $2.75 to be the first Waller-trained horse home on day one of The Championships at Randwick. The full market is: $2.75 Weary $4.00 Hawkspur $4.80 Sacred Falls $5.50 Royal Descent $7.00 Boban $31 My Kingdom Of Fife.

TUESDAY, APRIL 8

Doncaster Handicap, Saturday: Messene remains favourite ($3.50) and attracted a significant bet yesterday afternoon of $15,000 @ $3.65. The likelihood of a wet track, impressive form, a bet of $5000 @ $14 late yesterday and $2000 @ $9 this afternoon has seen the Chris Waller-trained import move to outright second favouritism. New Zealander El Roca ($11) who finished third in the George Ryder last start is on the third line of betting ($11), while Boban ($13) has been kept safe in its bid to claim the Epsom/Doncaster double and attracted a bet of $1000 @ $13. An interesting mover throughout betting in recent weeks has been Slow Pace ($101 to $15). Despite not having a run since finishing third in the Newcastle Newmarket on March 19, the Kris Lees-trained French Import has attracted some good sized bets including $750 @ $51, $3000 @ $7.25 (place), $1000 each-way @ $26 and $2000 @ $15.

Sydney Cup, Apr 19: The market has settled down here following the withdrawal yesterday of Fiorente, with Sertorius, Silent Achiever and The Offer all equal favourites ($4.60).

Queen Elizabeth Stakes, Apr 19: With Solicit's connections keeping the door open for a possible run in the Queen Elizabeth, the three-year-old filly has been installed as a $26 chance in a race that has had little activity.

MONDAY, APRIL 7

My Roos can break Macaffer tag: Scott

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 16 April 2014 | 14.23

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

NORTH Melbourne coach Brad Scott has backed Brent Harvey or Daniel Wells to break Brent Macaffer's tag if that's the way the match-ups pan out in Saturday's clash with Collingwood.

Macaffer drew criticism from Richmond coach Damien Hardwick for his role on Trent Cotchin, but Scott refused to delve into the legality of the Magpie's tactics.

But he noted the irony of how his Collingwood counterpart Nathan Buckley stated a few years ago that the era of the tagger was over.

BUCKS ASKED THE AFL ABOUT TAGGER

UMPS COACH DIDN'T LIKE PIE'S TACTICS

"I remember very distinctly Nathan Buckley writing an article when he finished playing and went into the media about how the tagger is dead," Scott said.

"I was midfield coach of Collingwood at the time and he made a point of saying to me 'There are no more taggers'.

"Well, he has changed his mind on that one obviously, (and) Macaffer has been doing extremely well."

Daniel Wells knows how to escape the grasp of taggers — just ask Essendon's Heath Hocking. Picture: Wayne Ludbey Source: News Corp Source: News Corp Australia

Scott said he had the confidence in his players as well as the umpires to ensure anything untoward would not be tolerated.

"The reality is he (Macaffer) has kept some really good players down from their usual output," he said.

"We expect him to go to one of our very good players. The umpires will do their job, and we will make sure we do ours.

"Brent Harvey has been tagged for 360 of his 366 games. He is used to it, and the guys who play with him are used to it happening.

"Daniel Wells is used to it, too. Nothing will change for us. We will make sure we go about our business and make sure we do that within the rules."

MCDONALD EARNS RISING STAR NOD

THE BAROMETER: ROUND 4

Scott said his focus was as much on Scott Pendlebury, whom he rates as the AFL's second best player to Gary Ablett, and Travis Cloke, as it has been on Macaffer.

He said: "We are certainly not going to let (Pendlebury) run around by himself, that's for sure."

And he is wary of Cloke, who is in the midst of a form slump and has the AFL's in-form defender Scott Thompson waiting for him, because the Magpie forward has a strong record against the Kangaroos in recent seasons.

"He hasn't been at his best, (but) he usually reserves that for us," Scott said. "We will be ready for him."

Midfielder Jack Ziebell is a "50-50 chance" to take on Collingwood, but Scott insists he won't be risking him if there is any doubt on his shoulder holding out.

Jack Ziebell will not be risked against Collingwood this weekend if there is doubt over his shoulder. Source: Getty Images Source: Getty Images

Ziebell has missed the past two weeks and pushed his case in today's training session.

"Look, the decision if he doesn't play will be up to them, and the decision if he doesn't play will be up to me.

"If they clear him medically, I still have to make the final call whether I am comfortable taking a risk on him, because the way he plays when he has a shoulder, it is always a risk."

Scott said Andrew Swallow was possibly a week away from playing his first game since rupturing his Achilles tendon last year.

"Hopefully, (he's) only a week away from playing at some level," Scott said. "He will play VFL footy before he comes back into senior selection.

"He feels as if he is ready to go, but the doctors and physios are holding him back at the moment.

"In himself, he thought he was ready to play and he brought his boot to Sydney (last week) just in case."

Who is the AFL’s Neo?

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

Get Adobe Flash Player

IN the 1999 film The Matrix Keanu Reeves' character, Neo, has the ability to consciously slow down space and time in order to dodge a barrage of bullets during a rooftop duel.

In the filmmaking game, this effect is called bullet time.

In the AFL game, bullet time is the ability to move through congestion and exit into space or release the ball to a teammate, with minimum fuss.

As the game has becomes faster and congestion increases, a footballers ability to slow down space and time among the chaos of multiple bodies is crucial.

Bullet time is yet to reach AFL vernacular, this concept is more commonly represented by the phrase, "he's good in traffic".

The List: Who is the best player in traffic?

Being a smooth mover is often a subjective assessment and not something stats can accurately measure.

Contested possessions might tell some of the story - if a player wins the ball in traffic then a contested possession will result.

But, bullet time it's not just about possessing the ball in traffic, it's about having the comosure to effectively dispose of it.

Scott Pendlebury generally leads this discussion, his ability to find space with a silky side step or come to a halt as other crash around him, is unparalleled.

Sam Mitchell might not stop time like Pendlebury does, but Champion Data says that since Round 1 2013 Mitchell has hit the target with 75 per cent of possessions gathered from a ground ball situation, compared to Pendlebury's 62.3 per cent.

It's Pendlebury's incredible spatial awareness that gives this bullet time ability, however Mitchell demonstrates that just like there was the red pill and the blue pill in The Matrix, there is more than one way out of sticky situation in the AFL.

Speed, power, size, ambidexterity and vision are all bullet time qualities that serve to buy players time and the ability to execute under the pressure of multiple bodies.

Who is the AFL's Neo? Who is The One?

SCOTT PENDLEBURY

Strong spatial awareness is defined by a heightened ability to process surrounds and judge depth of other players in an area, in relation to oneself. This allows Pendlebury to find space where others don't, or evade a tackle by as little as a fingernail and release the ball to a teammate. This quality is often attributed to his background as a basketballer where working in tight confines and cutting angles is essential.

GARY ABLETT

Ablett's bullet time skill is his incredible strength and agility. He can weave through a stoppage with power, pick the right exit point and then execute skills at extreme speed. Ablett also has the ability to take multiple tackles and either burst through congestion or feed the ball out to a teammate.

Trademark: Dodge, shrug, explode.

PATRICK DANGERFIELD

While other players in this debate have the ability to win the ball on the inside before feeding it out, Dangerfield prefers to win the ball in congestion and simply burst his way through into space. He is the consummate power athlete, possessing a rare combination of strength and speed.

SAM MITCHELL

Mitchell is one of the best clearance players of his generation. He might not be blessed with extreme leg speed, but he is quick with hand and mind. His ability to release the ball from a stoppage under tackle pressure is elite. In 2013, Mitchell was selected as an All-Australian half back and his ability to kick without preference on his left and right feet bought him the time to set the Hawks up from the defence.

Trademark: Hands up to release handball, baulk with left or right kick.

Josh Kennedy lifts his hands to fire away a handball. Source: News Limited

JOSH KENNEDY

Kennedy's bullet time attribute is his size. Standing at 188cm and 96kg, he's got the body of a key position player and this gives him an advantage over most at the stoppages. Due to his height, he can access the ball from the ruck tap before others, it is almost impossible to restrict his ability to release the ball when he gets his hands in the air and he can see options beyond the inner ring of a contested situation.

Trademark: Accept tackle, hands in the air and release to teammate.

2013-2014 contested possession efficiency: 61.8 per cent

League Teams will screen at the special time of 6.30pm tonight.

Buddy cleared, injured Dog offered ban

Written By Unknown on Senin, 14 April 2014 | 14.23

RICHMOND captain Trent Cotchin, Collingwood defender Nick Maxwell, Sydney forward Lance Franklin and Carlton ruckman Robert Warnock are in the clear after video scrutiny of weekend incidents.

The AFL match review panel decided neither player had a case to answer.

Western Bulldogs defender Dale Morris was the only player suspended, he can accept a one-match penalty for tripping Giants' Will Hoskin-Elliott.

Morris had to be subbed out of the game with a leg injury after the incident and wouldn't have been available anyway for Sunday's game against Carlton.

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

The MRP found that Cotchin's swinging motion to Collingwood midfielder Clinton Young's midriff in the last quarter last Friday night was insufficient force to be a reportable offence.

Maxwell's high contact to Cotchin with a bump in the opening term was also considered not forceful enough to warrant an further action.

The panel decided Franklin's late high contact to North Melbourne opponent Scott Thompson wasn't a striking action.

And Warnock's high contact to Melbourne ruckman Jake Spencer while the pair grappled in the third quarter was below the force to be reportable.

Morris was assessed as engaging in reckless conduct with high impact in the first quarter clash with Hoskin-Elliott. It drew a two-games ban that can be halved with an early guilty plea.

SYDNEY utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson will be easy to find in Round 5 when the AFL trials having players' surnames printed on the back of guernseys.

The versatile Swan's nickname — L.R.T— will instead be used in place of his 14-letter surname plus hyphen.

DO YOU LIKE THE IDEA? HAVE YOUR SAY BELOW....

While not yet confirmed, Melbourne small forward Jay Kennedy-Harris could be in similar company.

The Western Bulldogs were quick boast it was able to squeeze favourite son Daniel Giansiracusa's surname on his guernsey, as did Gold Coast with young gun Kade Kolodjashnij.

AFL football operations boss Mark Evans launched the new-look today.

"There's lots of young people and new people to our game who they think could have some benefit by being able to recognise names," he said.

"In our game we've had a longstanding history of looking at the numbers and knowing the stars of our game via the numbers.

"We've always got one eye on the traditions of the game, but we should also have one eye on what the future could be."

Brothers Kieren and Brandon Jack as well as Brad and Matthew Crouch will have their first initial and surnames printed on their guernseys.
