GREG Bird is risking missing the entire State of Origin series for NSW by challenging a dangerous tackle charge at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

Bird was hit with a grade three charge by the NRL match review committee for a dumping tackle on South Sydney's Bryson Goodwin as the NRL's cracks down on lifting tackles.

The charge carries a six-match suspension with the Titans seeking a downgrade after accepting guilt.

Should they succeed with a grade-two reduction, Bird will miss just two weeks — ruling him out of Origin I but leaving him available for NSW's remaining two games.

But should the NRL judiciary uphold the initial charge, Bird will be rubbed out for six matches.
