REIGNING V8 Supercars champ Jamie Whincup will take a 20-point lead to the season finale after winning the final race at the Sargent Security Phillip Island 360.
The Red Bull pilot headed home title rivals Mark Winterbottom and Craig Lowndes after a tense, safety car-interrupted race.
Earlier, Craig Lowndes took first blood in Sunday's twin V8 Supercars races at Phillip Island, the popular Holden pilot fought his way through from eighth on the grid, benefitting from a late-race safety car to soar past teammate Whincup to head home a Red Bull one-two.
Whincup dominated the early running after a manic start to the race.

Whincup charged into the lead at the first corner, sweeping past polesitter Fabian Coulthard, Mark Winterbottom and a fast-starting Chaz Mostert.
Winterbottom and van Gisbergen made slight contact as they turned into the first corner, the Ford pilot only just saving his Falcon from spinning.
Lowndes was the big winner in the first-turn skirmishes, arriving at Stoner Corner in third place, but he fell back down to sixth after a failed attempt to pass Mostert at MG a couple of laps later.
One-by-one Lowndes picked off his rivals until he was back in second, but five seconds behind his race-leading teammate.
Fortune smiled on him when Michael Caruso parked his Nissan at the Hayshed corner with a failed oil pump, bringing out the safety car and allowing him to mount a successful assault on Whincup.
He made the race-winning pass at Honda corner, throwing a late-dive down the inside of his teammate, who made sure Lowndes had enough room to get by.
The V8 field will now regather to prepare for the final race of the weekend at 4:25pm EDT,
Lowndes set to start alongside Saturday sparring partner Winterbottom on the front row.
