PLAY has resumed after rain halted play again at the Gabba with Australia just two wickets away from victory in the first Ashes Test.

But the Gabba groundstaff, led by veteran curator Kevin Mitchell Jnr, managed to get the players back on the field and give the hosts one more chance at securing victory tonight.

The mother country was facing a major defeat when play resumed with the score 8-160.
