Queensland Reds officials have launched their own inquiries into a pub incident in Melbourne where winger Digby Ioane has been interviewed by police to assist in an alleged assault case

The incident unfolded late on Saturday afternoon at the Mt Erica Hotel in High Street, Prahran where Ioane was with a 30-year-old Melbourne-based relative.

It is believed the 30-year-old was involved in a verbal altercation with a Prahran man of the same age.

Police confirmed they were investigating an alleged assault on a 30-year-old Prahran man, who sustained a minor leg injury.

A Queensland Rugby Union spokesman said the QRU was aware there was an incident involving Ioane in Melbourne on Saturday night.

"It's currently a matter for the Victorian Police and we are therefore unable to make further comment at this time,'' the QRU spokesman said.

"The QRU can confirm no other Queensland Reds players were in attendance and that it is also undertaking its own enquiries while working alongside the Australian Rugby Union and Police."

Ioane and Reds fly half Quade Cooper had stayed on in Melbourne after last Friday night's 23-13 victory over Melbourne Rebels.
