Carlton started life under Mick Malthouse with a two-point AFL pre-season win over Greater Western Sydney in Blacktown, but it was hardly the performance the veteran coach was hoping for.
Malthouse, holding the Blues' reins for the first time under match conditions after his one-year sabbatical from the game, was given a quick reminder of how frustrating the coaches' box can be.

His side struggled with the yips and, despite having twice the Giants' scoring shots, needed a late rally to overhaul the hosts 0.4.10 (34) to 0.5.2 (32).
Levi Casboult kicked the winning goal with only 25 seconds remaining in the game.
Sam Rowe impressed in the forward line, while midfielders Bryce Gibbs and Mitch Robinson were also influential for the Blues.
