THE Gold Coast's answer to the "Fab Four'' inspired the Suns to a 40-point victory over Greater Western Sydney at Metricon Stadium.

Led by the brilliant Gary Ablett along with the talented trio of young guns David Swallow, Jaeger O'Meara and Dion Prestia, the Suns midfield proved to be the difference in the battle for bragging rights between the AFL's expansion sides.

As a collective unit, the Suns elite midfielders may not have reached the same heights as Brisbane's famed "Fab Four'' from the triple premiership era but they certainly have the potency and potential to match their exploits in the years to come.

Their silver service allowed Tom Lynch to kick a career-best five goals while Giants star Jeremy Cameron booted four for the beaten but not disgraced visitors who were left to rue stray kicking in front of goal.

Ablett was his magnificent best as he finished the day with 30 disposals. 20 contested possessions, 11 clearances, 11 tackles, six inside 50s and two goals.

Surely, a third Brownlow Medal beckons.

Meanwhile, Swallow was at his combative best with 27 disposals and nine clearances while Prestia had a game-high 32 disposals.

O'Meara bounced back from a two-possession first quarter to record 15 touches in the third term alone when the Suns put the pedal down. He finished with 30 disposals, 10 tackles, seven inside 50s and five clearances.

The loss of ruckman Tom Nicholls (calf) before the game forced the Suns to throw no. 1 defender Rory Thompson into the ruck and left the Suns backline shorthanded against the talented tall timber of the Giants.

But it proved a minor hurdle on the road to the Gold Coast's fourth win of the season that keeps them inside the top eight.

The Gold Coast blew the game open with six goals to three in the third quarter with Brandon Matera and Lynch both booting two majors in the term to give the Suns a six-goal buffer at the last change.

The Giants continued to be wasteful in front of goal with ex-Cat Josh Hunt kicking three points in the quarter.

GWS was able to find space in their attacking half of the ground but were guilty of poor kicking or poor decisions when they had the Suns at their mercy.

The Gold Coast had no such problem with O'Meara inspiring the third-quarter surge with a hand in a number of goals that punished GWS errors.

The Suns led by 17 points at the main break but the margin did not indicate how close the contest was after two quarters.

GWS were on top in a host of key statistics in the first quarter but wasted numerous chances in front of goal while the Suns made more of their opportunities in perfect conditions for football.

Jonathon Patton kicked the first goal of the match but the Gold Coast piled on the next six majors with Aaron Hall booting two goals and Swallow, Lynch, Matt Shaw, and Michael Rischitelli joining in the blitz.

The Suns led by 25 points at quarter-time but the Giants came out swinging to start the second term with Patton, Cameron and Adam Tomlinson kicking goals to drag GWS to within seven points.

The Gold Coast's discipline also fell away as they conceded two costly 50 metre penalties but Ablett stopped the rot with a brilliant individual goal.

After being kept to just one possession for the term by direct opponent Tom Scully, he pounced on the Sherrin deep in attack, baulked to his right, baulked to his left and spun to his right again before snapping truly.

In further god news for the Suns, the comeback quartet of Nathan Bock, Karmichael Hunt, Charlie Dixon and Harley Bennell all got through the NEAFL match unscathed.
