Australia had declared its first innings at 9-570, with paceman Ryan Harris unbeaten on 55 and spinner Nathan Lyon on 15.

The pair put on 41 for the 10th wicket before captain Michael Clarke closed the innings.

Harris' runs came from just 54 balls and included two sixes and six boundaries.

Australia smashed 12 sixes in its innings - a record for an Ashes Test.

Clarke top-scored with 148 today while keeper Brad Haddin made 118.

Australia's total was just 12 runs short of its best for an Ashes Test at Adelaide Oval, behind the 582 it managed in the 1920-21 series.
