Craig Lowndes has ended a seven-year drought in Adelaide, and grabbed a slice of history, winning the opening race of the 2013 Clipsal 500.
The veteran cruised home a whopping 20 seconds ahead of runner-up Will Davison (Ford), from Red Bull Racing Australia teammate Jamie Whincup, Alex Premat, James Courtney and 19-year-old rookie Scott McLaughlin.

Lowndes' victory in the first event under the revolutionary Car of the Future regulations pushed the three-time drivers champion to 90 career wins, equalling the V8 Supercars record held by motorsport legend Mark Skaife.
It was his first win on Adelaide's city streets since 2006.
Lowndes predicted pre-race the new era would end the domination of Triple Eight Racing, but it was a trouble-free day for the 38-year-old.

Pole-sitter Shane van Gisbergen's day started badly when he bogged down off the line and fell back in the field. The young gun battled back before mechanical issues forced him into the pits 16 laps from home.
Mark Winterbottom's race ended on the opening lap. Despite jumping to the lead off the line he pitted immediately, and didn't move for more than 50 laps.
He rejoined for a late practice run and set a new lap record for the day, giving some home to tomorrow's Race 2.
Holden cars held six of the first seven spots.
James Moffat was the best of the new manufacturers, driving his Nissan-powered Norton 360 car to 14th position.
Home-town boy Tim Slade (Erebus Motorport) was next best in his Mercedes-badged car in 15th.
